A sheep-shearing, dog-loving, 81-year-old Australian grandmother might have her driver’s license taken away after cops clocked her going 164 km/hour (about 102 mph). The reason for her breakneck speed? She blames it on Aca, her Jack Russell terrier.
Judith Slade, who lives north of Melbourne, was returning from a weekend holiday at a hotel when she says Aca jumped onto her knee. She says Aca forced her leg down, making her foot press the accelerator as she passed another vehicle.
“Aca jumped on my leg and wanted to sit there, pushing down hard,” she told the Herald Sun. “I had to drag him off and throw him in the back seat.”
Cops impounded her car, but she got it back this weekend after paying several hundred dollars. Slade, who says she is a sheep shearer by trade, claims she’s never had an accident, and is miffed that police will probably suspend her license. They’re also reviewing her record to see if further action is warranted.
Slade says she wasn’t going as fast as police reported. “I’ll admit I was speeding a few kilometers an hour over, but no big deal,” she told the Herald Sun. She’s vowing to be on her best driving behavior ever so her license won’t be permanently revoked.
“I don’t want to go out like this,” she says.
