Veterinarian Care Brought To Dogs In Need

Sometimes its easy to forget that there are tons of people around the world just like us trying to make a difference for our furry friends and loved ones. Here’s an article from the
IFAW’s Animal Rescue Blog about TEARS (The Emma Animal Rescue Society). Its a ray of sunshine! The TEARS people sound like people we’d all like to know!

New Hope for Pets in South Africa

Hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are without veterinary care in South Africa; an impossible number to count or even estimate. These animals (particularly dogs) are kept as pets and used for a variety of reasons: security, companionship, hunting, fighting, etc. Therefore even those with homes are not properly cared for.

I have just read over a recent report from an animal rescue team called TEARS that IFAW funds as part of a larger companion animal rescue project in South Africa. The IFAW-TEARS team travels and provides veterinary care in the most remote parts of South Africa surrounding Cape Town, where many companion animals suffer a life of abandonment.

In a period of 6 months, a total of 780 dogs and cats were sterilized (spayed or neutered) and an additional 2034 received veterinary care!!

Not only does this offer potential for population numbers to fall, but animals that would have suffered are now treated and many placed in loving homes.
