The Luncheon

Here’s a tearjerker that comes from a member diary. Lucy’s Diary, “Days of a Girlie Girl’s Life,” gives the inside view of the life of an active Shih Tzu. Let me say right now this is an extremely sweet story and is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes. Unlike some of the recent tearjerkers I’ve posted, there is no bad side to it. But it is fairly long so I’m only going to give you the opening paragraphs and if you want to read the rest you can jump on over to the Diary page.

The title of the post is “The Luncheon.”

Several weeks ago me and mommie got an invitation to a volunteer appreciation luncheon hosted by the nursing home we visit. As you can imagine I was very excited and honored to be included in the guest list. Of course the next thing I had to work on was just the right outfit for the afternoon. Me and mommie shopped and found a beautiful pink floral dress that looked just perfect for the occasion. Mommie made me a beautiful hat to match and a lovely new necklace.

The morning of the luncheon I asked mommie to give me a spa treatment I wanted to look like the little Diva I am. Finally we are all dressed and ready to go. I have to admit I was a bit nervous meeting all of the other volunteers.

When we arrived the room was decorated in a beautiful tropical motif and each guest was given a lei as they entered the room. My lei of course was pink. When the guests were all seated Alina the volunteer coordinator gave each guest a beautiful name tag. As Alina presented the name tags she spoke about each person and what they do for the home and it’s residents. She even had a name tag for me and said lovely things about me and my family it brought a tear to my eye and a blush to my cheeks.

At each of our places at the table there was a little treasure chest we were asked to look inside but not tell anyone what it held. I looked and mine was empty wondering if perhaps they had forgotten to put something inside. Then Alina told a story called the box that I want to share with all of you my friends ….

Okay, that’s your teaser. If you want to read the rest (and if you need a nice cry I would definitely say do so) here’s the link to the rest of “The Luncheon.”
