Help Elect Candidate Who Will Close Puppy Mills
As regular readers know, I don’t talk about politics EXCEPT when it concerns our furfriends. Here’s a chance to make a difference with your votes. According to a report by Lucy in President Isabel’s Animal Abuse Commission, Puppy millers are urging their supporters to vote against Missouri Senatorial candidate Claire McCaskill (D) because they expect her to close down puppy mills in Missouri.
For those of you who don’t know, Missouri is one of the worst states for puppy mills. Dogsters and other dog lovers here in Missouri (I live in St. Louis) have been fighting a very uphill battle for a long time.
And before any of incumbant Jim Talent’s(R) supporters write in demanding equal time, let me extend an invitation to his office to send us a statement on his stand on puppy mills. I’d love to see him pledge to do something different in his next term and close down the puppy mills!
Dog Lovers Unite
The commercial kennel industry is worried. They say that if Claire McCaskill gets elected she will shut the commercial kennels down!
The voices of millions of dog lovers are not being heard in political corridors of Washington because we do not speak with a unified voice. The commercial kennel industry in conjunction with the agriculture industry gives millions of dollars to politicians every year. It’s time for dog lovers to join together and speak loudly for the dogs who are suffering in puppy mills across the country.
This year there is a spectacular candidate running for the Senate in Missouri – Claire McCaskill. Claire McCaskill has been the State Auditor in Missouri since 1999. She has been a determined watchdog over taxpayers’ money and was lauded as “one of the most active and effective auditors in Missouri history.”
One of the industries that McCaskill audited was the commercial kennel industry. Dog lovers know that there are more puppy mills in Missouri than in any other state. McCaskill issued two strong audit reports detailing abuses in the industry including close ties between the kennels and the Department of Agriculture whose employees were supposed to be enforcing the kennel regulations but were not. McCaskill took a courageous and principled stand when she audited a large industry in Missouri.
Now McCaskill is running for the US Senate. The race is very close so it is possible that an outpouring of support from dog lovers could make the difference and could elect a person who has stood up for the dogs in the past. If McCaskill was elected, the real winners would be the people of Missouri, the people of the country and the dogs who would have a Senator who had the courage to stand up to special interests.
The commercial kennel industry has told all of the commercial kennel owners that they need to vote against Claire McCaskill. This is what they said in their industry magazine: ” We simply can’t let this woman get to Washington. Think seriously about this threat to your kennel operation. She will try to shut this industry down.”
” She will try to shut the industry down!”
If everyone who gets this email donated just ten dollars, that could make the difference in this close election. It would also show that dog lovers have a loud voice and we must be heard. We have to stand together for people who have stood for the animals in the past. Claire McCaskill stood up for the dogs, now we, the dog lovers, must stand up for her.
If you are in Missouri, please vote for Claire McCaskill. Please volunteer for her campaign. For more information about Claire McCaskill or to volunteer to help her campaign, please go to her website.
To contribute to her campaign, please go to Dog Lovers for McCaskill. Contributions through ActBlue go directly to the campaign and are attributed to a particular cause so that the donations get noted as being from Dog Lovers. Please join with us and help create a huge groundswell of support. The dogs suffering in puppy mills can’t speak for themselves. You have to speak for them. Our voices are much more significant if we join together. We can be a political force if we join together. This is our chance to have a huge impact. Please join us today!
This just in – the auctioneers who run the hundreds of puppy mill auctions every year told people at an auction in Hiawatha, Kansas last week not to vote for Claire McCaskill because she will be bad for the commercial kennel industry.
Please go to ActBlue -Doglovers for McCaskill and donate to Claire McCaskill TODAY.
Time is of the Essence.
Thank you!
There is an update to this post. I just received notification that the Humane Society of the United States has endorsed Claire McCaskill over Jim Talent in this race.
The Humane Society of America has endorsed Clarie McCaskill over Jim Talent. WHY?
He voted to continue slaughtering tens of thousands of horses and shipping the meat to France, Belgian, Japan.Voted to continue taxpayer funding for the international tuna fishing convention which allows dolphins to be drowned in tuna nets. He voted against legislation that would have helped to protect endangered species.
In the current session of Congress alone he has refused to co-sponsor bills to crack down on animal fighting, to provide oversight at mass dog breeding “puppy mills,” to stop the sale of downed livestock who are too sick or injured to walk, to prevent pets from being poisoned from anti-freeze, and he even voted aginst the plan to help evacuate pets in disasters.
During his 4 years in the Senate, he consistently scored low marks by the Humane Society Legislative Fund. Go to www.fund.org.
