Pet insurance provider Nationwide recently analyzed policy and claims data for more than 1.6 million dogs, revealing an interesting trend. The number of Poodle crosses enrolled with Nationwide has increased 160%, while the number of Poodles, Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers has decreased.

Going Up

Goldendoodles: 347%

Labradoodles: ↑ 196%

Going Down

Labrador Retrievers: ↓ 32%

Poodles, all sizes: 32%

    I wish people would understand that the only responsible way to create hybrid mixes is to breed a purebred to a purebred, then produce one generation only of the cross breeds (known as an F1 hybrid). When cross breeds are bred with cross breeds, the undesirable traits and health problems of both breeds are much more likely to start showing up.
