Don’t be surprised if your neighbor’s cat seems a little more peeved than usual this Christmas. A new Associated Press-Petside.com poll shows that dogs can expect to receive more gifts this year than their kitty counterparts.

About 56 percent of dog owners plan to give their canine companion a gift. Only 48 percent of cat owners will bestow Fluffy with a present. Poor Fluffy.

Some other interesting numbers from the poll:

Renters are more likely to bestow gifts on their pets than homeowners.

Less religiously active owners are more apt to give gifts to their pets.

Women are more likely to give their pets presents than men. This year the difference is a seven-point gap. Last year women led the pack by 22 percent. (Are men getting more generous, or women getting less so?)

Jake wishes they had asked people why they think dogs are 8 percentage points more gift-worthy than cats, but then he saw the photo below and decided it wasn’t such a good idea after all.
