Great idea! I recently got a chance to try out the PetSafe Micro ID Collar and was impressed. This smart little device is a USB memory stick attached to a collar. The memory stick comes out so you can load lots of important info, including your pet’s photo, on it. Then if your pet is lost anyone finding your pet who has a computer or access to one can read all about your pet, including how to get him or her home, any medical conditions, name, etc.

It’s very easy to use except for one thing — initially getting the memory stick out of the holder. I have lessened strength in my hands so I had to get help getting the stick twisted free of the holder the first time. It’s a little tricky but someone else was able to do it. After the first time, it was fairly easy to twist the stick free. As for use of the program on the memory stick, that was easy. It’s all laid out and easy to walk through.

On the whole, this is a potentially life-saving device for any dog or cat who could possibly get loose outside their home. And isn’t that most of them?

Here’s what the PetGadget site has to say about the PetSafe Micro ID Rescue Collar:

PetSafe Micro I.D. Rescue Collar, is a complete pet care and lost pet prevention system.
The PetSafe Micro I.D. Rescue Collar isn’t just a collar, it is the ultimate pet protection system with convenient features even today’s best micro-chipping system can’t offer. Never before has a little collar offered a pet owner so many benefits.

Hidden inside each lightweight collar is a simple “memory stick” or USB flash drive that stores all of your pet’s personalized data. If a pet wearing the PetSafe Micro I.D. Rescue Collar is ever lost, the memory stick can be plugged right into any computer to identify the pet in the rescuer’s home – no need for an inconvenient vet visit to scan anything! While contact is made with the owner, a rescuer can access pet care instructions to follow in the mean time.
