Look at that giant cat and those two dogs floating above the street in front of that beautiful building! What are they doing there? And why is that cat bigger than the black lab who is lying beside him?

I can clear up the answer to question 1, but question 2 is a mystery to me, too. (I think the cat went in and tweaked a few things in Photoshop, but I have no proof.)

The building they are in front of is San Francisco’s sumptuous Palace Hotel. “Ah,” you may be saying to yourself. “Of course they’re in FRONT of the hotel, because the hotel would never allow such creatures INSIDE!” Not true! At least not between 6:30 pm and 10:30 pm, Saturday, May 15.

On that night, the Palace will roll out the red carpet for dogs (sorry, no cats, actually) who accompany their people to a very special event called Petchitecture. It’s a top-drawer fundraiser for PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), a nonprofit that helps the elderly and people with illnesses keep the love and companionship of their pets. PAWS happens to be my favorite non-profit animal organization in San Francisco, which is the reason I’m blogging about the event.

Petchitecture will be a time-out evening of lavish surroundings, luscious food and drinks, jovial pups and an incredible live and silent auction showcasing visionary, unique pet habitats designed by leading architects and designers. Fully licensed and vaccinated pups (on leash) are welcome.

The Huntsman Architectural Group created a Petchitecture habitat called Bamboopalapa.

Petchitecture is one of the most unique events you can attend in San Francisco and with the Palace Hotel as the backdrop for this years event, it promises to be as glamorous as it is fun, says PAWS President John L. Lipp. Underscoring the serious side of the fun, Lipp said that the PAWS client base has grown by more than 30 percent over the past two years. In a weak economy our clients depend on our life changing services more than ever. Our message with Petchitecture is come join us for a night of fun and you help us fulfill our mission throughout the year.

I’ve been to Petchitectures in the past, and they’re tremendous fun, for a great cause. If you’re in the Bay Area and you’re looking for an exciting, upscale night for you and your favorite dog(s), it’s something you won’t want to miss. Click here for details, including ticket info. I hope to see you at the Palace!
