Dogsters, here’s a riddle: What is only 15 years old, but has found homes for 17 million pets, and hopes to find homes for 2.5 million more homeless pets this year? OK, bad riddle, especially with the big headline and badge kinda giving it away. But in case your coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, the answer is Petfinder, the world’s largest online database of adoptable pets.
“Who would have thought fifteen years ago that we could shrink the number of homeless pets being euthanized from more than sixteen million to fewer than four million?” says Betsy Saul, co-founder of Petfinder.com. “Petfinder has facilitated that change, and I’m in awe of what we, in concert with the animal welfare community, have accomplished. We’re ready to plunge ahead into a world where all adoptable pets have families.”
How would you like to help increase awareness of the importance of adoption to help further decrease that still-too-high number of four million euthanized pets each year? Petfinder is making it really easy, and we’re all going to do it together. And it won’t cost you a penny.
Tomorrow, March 15, Petfinder is putting together “Adopt the Internet Day.” They’re asking people who care about dogs, cats, and other pets to do join together online to promote the adoption of homeless pets. Here are some of the ways the great folks at Petfinder suggest going about increasing the awareness of adoption:
More than 320,000 pets are waiting for homes on Petfinder.com. Help Petfinder Adopt the Internet today and find forever homes for as many as possible!
I adopted my pet from Petfinder and now I want to help get this pet adopted! If you want to help pets in need of forever homes, please repost this!
This is a really important event. Take any one of these measures, and you may save the life of a future beloved pet — or two, or 20. I’ll be back with more for Adopt the Internet Day tomorrow.
