Before the Internet, when young people did incredibly stupid and unthinking things, like saying they wished death upon a puppy owned by a member of the band One Direction, it usually stayed in the neighborhood or the school yard, and the people who did the talking were just the local idiots.

Today, what a mess. Young, stupid people are now wishing death upon a puppy owned by a member of One Direction on Twitter, and they’re becoming global idiots. What an awful thing to do. You don’t wish harm on a puppy, on Twitter or otherwise. Look at this puppy:

The sordid affair started when One Direction singer Liam Payne bought a puppy with his girlfriend Danielle Peazer. They named it Loki. It is one heck of a puppy. Payne then introduced the dog to his 9 million Twitter fans, writing, “Everybody meet mine and @daniellepeazer new dog Loki :),” and posting photos. It was a nice gesture. It’s what famous people use Twitter for.

Strangely, some people thought this was an act of war. Their world collapsed. They wished death on the dog, because (put on your idiot hat for this) they thought that his having a dog would “steal Liam’s attention from them,” according to the Metro.

They wrote stuff like this:

The dog is not going to see tomorrow if i can help it…u were supposed to come back for me liam.

I am outraged and appalled f***ing Loki the dog! That dog ain’t nothing but the scum on my shoe.

Let’s kill him! Gun? Knife?

I hate that moment when I’m really excited to read his tweet but instead I saw that dog aghhh #dieloki.

Some people also tried to make the hashtag #DieLoki catch on, but it seems like most people are using it to bash the people who threatened the dog, and anyway it seems to have been eclipsed in use by the #WeLoveLoki hashtag, which is the way it should be.

For those who don’t know, One Direction is a British boy band based in London. I literally had to look that up on Wikipedia.
