Sanctuary for wolf-dog hybrids gets another month
December 10, 2006

LEMPSTER, N.H. –More than 40 wolf-dog hybrids being kept at a special sanctuary have gotten a brief reprieve.

A judge had ordered the Dancing Brooke Wolf-Hybrid Rescue to get rid of the animals by last Friday, or face having them seized and put to death. Neighbors had complained about their howling.

But a last-minute deal between the Sullivan County attorney and the sanctuary will allow the animals to remain for a few more weeks. The two sides filed a motion agreeing to postpone sentencing until Jan. 15 and saying they would return to court with a solution.

The owner of the property, Janice Medor, was convicted in September on five counts of keeping nuisance dogs. Medor and the sanctuary appealed, asking that they have until July 2007 to find new homes for the animals.
