Dog Abuser Found Guilty

That’s right. This cold-blooded killer got a relative slap on the wrist for murdering one dog and abusing another!

And the really sad part of this is that this 21-year-old is going to emerge with no felonies on his record! How much harder does that make it to convict him the next time he abuses and/or kills a defenseless being (like a dog, cat or human child)?

Man who shot dogs sent to jail, fined

A judge delivered a strong message to Daniel M. York, a Mundy Township man who shot two dogs on his property, killing one and injuring another.

“You have a self-control problem,” Genesee Circuit Judge Geoffrey L. Neithercut told York before sentencing him Tuesday to jail and probation. “You think the world is picking on you.”

York, 21, earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of killing/torturing animals, both 4-year felonies, for shooting the dogs that belonged to his neighbor.

Neithercut agreed to sentence York under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which would leave him with no felony convictions if he completes terms of his sentence.

But Neithercut promised to keep a close eye on York during his probation and revoke the bargain if the terms are not met.

In addition to sentencing him to 3 years of probation, Neithercut sent York to jail for 182 days, ordered him to complete 200 hours of community service and banned him from owning or being near animals through the probation.

He also ordered York to receive a psychiatric evaluation, pay more than $1,000 in court fines and costs and pay the dogs’ owner $361 in restitution for costs of treating the surviving animal.

York was charged in the June 12 killing of Christopher, a 12-year-old collie mix-breed dog, and injuring Paws, an 11-month-old Labrador retriever.
