Michael Vick has announced his support for The Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, which would make it illegal to attend a dog fight or cock fight. Vick, who served two years in prison for his role in a dogfighting ring, says stiffer penalties could prevent people from attending fights.

“These laws are not just to punish people, but to prevent people from getting involved in the first place,” the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback said at a press conference. “That’s why education is very important about the subject.”

Vick isteaming up with Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) to push for this federal legislation. Many Dogsters have condemned Vick for not stepping up to the plate enough to help end dogfighting. Does his urging congress to support the bill change your mind? If his lobbying calls enough attention to the bill and helps it pass, how would you feel about him? Clearly the monstrous business of his past can’t be undone, but do you think he’s trying to right his wrongs? Or is it just a well-scripted PR move?

Here’s a snippet from the press conference.
