I just found out that Anna Nirva, founder of Sunbear Squad, is featured on the Humane Society Of The United States (HSUS) volunteer stories page.
Anna was asked if she would agree to be profiled when she signed up to participate in Wisconsin’s Humane Lobby Day on March 31st. As you can see, she said yes.
Anna Nirva in Genoa, Wisc.
Name: Anna Nirva
Location: Genoa, Wisc.
Occupation: Part-time animal protection activist and humane society volunteer; full-time employee of multi-national corporation.
Prior experience with government: Absolutely none!
Animal/issue focus: Encouraging ordinary people to be good Samaritans through the Sunbear Squad web site.
Goal for this year: Start 250 Neighborhood Watches for Pets
Accomplishment most proud of: I feel a sense of pride in keeping Sunbear’s name alive. The dog suffered horribly as he was shut away in a room and slowly starved to death in the ensuing six weeks. Sunbear needed help and didn’t get it, even though people were on the other side of the laundry room wall where he waited. I’m inspired by the the animal control officer who championed his cause in West Virginia andThe Humane Society of the United States which offered a reward for the capture ofSunbear’sowner and published accounts of the entire ordeal and aftermath. I will be no less committed than the officerand The HSUS to further my work of encouraging ordinary people to do the right thing if they see or hear an animal in distress.I won’t count my accomplishments until every neighborhood in America has a Neighborhood Watch that checks empty homes and watches for pets in trouble.
Advice to others: Keep up the great work everyone! We don’t know each other yet, but we are kindred spirits. We may not always agree on every point; however, I’m grateful for your voice, your work, your selflessness, your heart.

Once again Anna Nirva is showing she doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk. Thank you Anna for all the wonderful work you do.
