I received a message about a shelter that is still without power after the horrible ice storms that hit the area. They are in desperate need to get the animals to a safe place, somewhere with heat and electricity.
Due to this week’s horrible ice storms,
the Grayson County Humane Society in Leitchfield, KY has NO HEAT, WATER, ELECTRICITY, OR PHONE SERVICE!Services to the area aren’t likely to be up and running for ONE TO TWO WEEKS!!
The 40+ dogs that are now there need to find a WARM PLACE to rest their weary heads ASAP.
The weather forecasts for the next week and beyond are still VERY cold at night (from the low teens to low 30’s) and many (if not most) of the dogs are in outside (covered) runs.
A transport is being planned to the Northeast for the weekend of February 7th. It will be heading towards Buffalo, Rochester, Allentown, and possibly up towards Vermont and further east towards Connecticut. Although many of these dogs have already been vetted, the shelter needs to know what dogs will be going by February 3rd so they can schedule any additional vetting services.
PLEASE – PLEASE – PLEASE…..
if you can rescue, adopt, or foster EVEN ONE of these precious furry souls, contact Beth, one of the shelter volunteers, on her cell phone (that she’s recharging on her car battery for as long as she has gas in the car!) – at 270-230-5099 or send an email to Donna Schwender, one of the shelters “virtual volunteers” at schwender@aol.com, and she’ll get a message to the shelter. The shelter phone number of 270-230-8839 IS NOT WORKING right now and Donna White, who usually coordinates the transports, has no internet access.
Run ONLY by a handful of VERY dedicated volunteers,
this is a VERY rescue friendly shelter!
Sponsored dogs are free to approved rescue groups.
Low cost vetting is available and out-of-state adoptions are allowed.
