Stumped over what to name your new dog or kitty? If you want to follow the latest trends, look no farther than the upcoming royal wedding for inspiration.

New information collected by Banfield Pet Hospitals shows that the name Kate/Catherine is becoming super popular for dogs this year. If the trend continues, 2011 will see a 40 percent jump from last year in the number of dogs with this moniker.

Her princely future hubby has an even bigger following with the cat crowd than Kate does with the dog crowd. If naming keeps going as it is, the name “Prince William” will be a very common name for kitties, with an increase of 70 percent over last year alone.

What d’ya think, Dogsters? Would you name a pet after Prince William or Kate? How about the prince’s much-maligned dad, Charles? Camilla? Harry? I know a woman who named the very old cat she adopted in 2000 after the Queen Mum (she actually called her “Queen Mum”), but my circle is bereft of the rest of the royal family.
