Christmas wouldn’t be complete without my pups, Dolly and Spot. So when I travel from Houston to Phoenix for the holiday, they are right by my side. We drive now, but back when Dolly was my only dog and much smaller, she flew with me more than once, snug in her Sherpa Original Deluxe carrier.
I chose the bag because of maker Quaker Pet Group’s Guaranteed On Board program, which ensures that its small and medium carriers meet the guidelines of certain airlines. With a small, you can fly on American Airlines, AirTran, Aloha Airlines, Delta, Southwest, US Airways, United, Air Canada, and WestJet. American Airlines, Delta, United, and Air Canada also allow the medium size. If you get to the airport and encounter any problems getting your pup on board because of the carrier, the company will reimburse you for the cost of your ticket and pet fee.
The carrier also proves comfy for dogs and humans alike, with its faux-lambskin liner, mesh panels for ventilation and visibility, and a padded shoulder strap, a much-appreciated feature when trekking through an airport. It comes in large, too, for ground travel, and all three sizes are available in black, brown, plum, and gray.
Sherpa has generously offered to give two Dogster pups an Original Deluxe carrier of their own! Follow the directions below.
Note: Sherpa recommends its small carriers for pets up to 8 pounds, 13 inches long, and 7.5 inches tall; medium for up to 16 pounds, 16 inches long, and 10 inches tall; and large for up to 22 pounds, 18 inches long, and 11 inches tall. Please enter only if your dog can fit comfortably inside one of these sizes. See the company’s website for details about its Guaranteed On Board program and individual airline websites for pet policies.
