Wow, Dogsters, you don’t make judging contests easy sometimes. We asked you to come up with a new adjective that describes your dog, and to define it. You came up with some very entertaining and dictionary-worthy words. I hope the people at Merriam-Webster are taking note! (They must be, since they’re going to send out the two bowls.)

Fortunately we were able to narrow the selection because not all submissions were adjectives. Some awesome entries were nouns, others verbs, and great as those were, the word police wouldn’t let ’em pass muster. Some submissions were multi-word phrases, some didn’t have definitions, and a few were words that already exist, albeit for different reasons. So our field was significantly narrowed to a whole bunch of still-hard-to-judge entries.

The top two, as selected by our small panel of dogaholics and wordaholics:

Dogular (dog + singular) A dog activity which seems strange to humans, but which is actually quite natural for a dog its a dog thing. Sniffing unsavory substances, rolling in stinky stuff right after a bath, and overly exuberant, joyous greetings are examples of dogular behavior.” (Winner: Pat Gray)

Jackcited — A word reserved for that special type of head to toe, couldnt possibly be more excited, vibrating with every inch of my being excitement, that can only properly be demonstrated by a Jack Russell. (Winner: Megan)
