Dog Treats On A Budget

I just saw this recipe over on Cara Vacchiano’s Austin Dog Trainer – Positive Dog Training Blog and had to share!

The cheapest dog treats you can make!

Cara Vacchiano
Looking for high value dog treats? Buy a pack of hot dogs (the cheaper, the better!) and cut them up into small (1/4″ inch) pieces. Put them on a paper towel and microwave them for 3-5 minutes. You want them to be dry and easy to handle – if they aren’t cooked long enough, they’ll stay messy and they’ll go bad pretty quickly. Once they’re dried out, you can put them in baggies in the freezer and take them out as you need them.

Tips: For a healthier option, buy turkey dogs.

Don’t buy the really expensive hot dogs – it doesn’t work as well with them. It also doesn’t work with bologna – apparently, bologna and hot dogs are not as similar as you’d think!

Don’t put them on a plate for this – I’ve split several plates right in half doing this – use paper towel instead!

Yummy! I’ll have to try these with my pack!
