When your roommate comes home, do you run up for a hug and suggest throwing the football around, throwing the football around, or throwing the football around? Or do you freeze, startled, then dash into the other room to the safety of the closet or under the bed?
To put it another way, are you a dog-friend or a cat-friend? That’s the premise of Fat Awesome’s hilarious video, “Cat-Friend vs. Dog-Friend,” which lit up YouTube after its launch Nov. 21. To say it went viral is an understatement — it has more than 4 million views.
Take a moment with those numbers: Four million views in a week and a half, with more undoubtedly on the way (like yours). Admittedly, we’re a bit tardy in getting it to you (tryptophan?), but if you haven’t seen it yet, enjoy:
Fat Awesome is a comedy duo out of Billerica, Boston, comprising Jimmy Craig and Justin Parker, who’ve been making videos and performing comedy together for about 10 years, doing whatever they can to stay in the business. As they say on their site, “We make videos, comics, do standup, music, events, and anything else for attention. Please give us money to make a TV show or a movie.”
With the success of “Cat-Friend vs. Dog-Friend,” that just might happen. (Note to Fat Awesome: Stick a dog in it.)
The video is their largest success yet, by order of magnitudes.
“To get 3 million people watching something that we produced in Billerica is amazing,” Craig told Boston.com on Nov. 30, when it still has a paltry 3 million views. “It doesn’t require going out to L.A. and pitching to execs. We can do everything from home and still reach those huge audiences.”
Provided, of course, that you stick a dog in it. Or a cat. You guys do cats very well, too.
