DOG HALTS A GAS TRAGEDY

SAFFY the dog saved owners Joe Marshall and Martyn Whitehead by licking them awake when she smelt a gas leak.

Four-month springer-cross Saffy had only been with the couple for five weeks when she detected fumes from the oven.

Ambulance officer Joe, 35, of Hove, East Sussex, said: “She just wouldn’t let me sleep and when I followed her down to the kitchen I was almost overcome with the gas.

“The boiler is programmed to come on at 5am and I dread to think what could have happened.”
