Dog cafe wins new leash of life
By Saffron Howden
April 23, 2008A DOG-loving couple who were so afraid of losing their canine cafe they considered a “paw-tition” has won their bid to stay in business.
Chaka and Michael Lloyd-Jones have run the kiosk-style Cafe Bones at Leichhardt in the inner-west for the past two years.
Last night, after a nail-biting wait to hear what their future held, the Lloyd-Joneses were told they could continue serving up pupaccinos to the pampered dog set of Sydney.
Leichhardt councillors voted 6-4 for the pair to keep their lease on the council-owned property, rejecting a rent offer 500 per cent higher than the existing rate when the current arrangement expires in October.
The Lloyd-Joneses, who own two Japanese spitz and a chihuahua, were overwhelmed by the decision.
“It’s just amazing. I cannot believe the support that was there,” Mrs Lloyd-Jones said.
