Dog Coats For Hurricane Katrina’s Canine Victimes
Okay, I admit it. I didn’t know where Alderney was either but after reading how they helped some Katrina victims on this side of the Atlantic (there’s your first clue) I made a point of checking out where the very caring island (second clue) is located.
The Humane Society of Louisiana gave the Trover Coat Company a special award, the Hurricane Partnership Award, for the company’s help in assisting some of Katrina’s canine victims. After Katrina hit last year, the company got an urgent request for assistance in treating dogs who had been too traumatized to rehome. What the rescuers needed was some way to keep these dogs warm and dry. Trover Coat Company, with help from other dog lovers in the UK and Europe, (okay, that’s your last clue) came through.
The Trover folks used duvet covers and old sleeping bags sent to them from across the UK and Europe to fashion thirty specially designed coats. DHL provided free shipping of the coats to the States.
You can read the whole story on the BBC website.

If you still haven’t figured it out, Alderney is one of the Channel Islands between Britain and France. But wherever it is, its very obvious those who live there have big hearts and deserve a “thank you” from all of us! We also should thank all our European fellow dog lovers who sent in the duvets and sleeping bags. A big sloppy thank you to you all!
