Young Albertville resident Taylor Quicks goal to acquire bulletproof vests for Albertville Police Departments K-9 dogs was realized Wednesday.

In April, 12-year-old Taylor overheard a conversation about the Albertville police K-9s and their need for protective vests.

The overheard conversation between K-9 officer Joey Skaggs wife and Quicks mom, gave birth to Protect Our Police Dogs or, as Quick calls it, POP Dogs.

POP Dogs became a fundraising means for acquiring the bulletproof vests, which cost $925 each.

Quicks initial efforts raised $5,200.

Of that amount, $3,700 was used to cover the cost of the four vests.

K-9 officers John Thompson, Skaggs, Daniel Massengill and Matt Fitzgerald, handlers of the four K-9 recipients of the vests Bok, Kilo, Knocka and Mako, were unanimous in their praise for Quick.

They noted their appreciation and admiration for her efforts, and for the response of the community.

Doug Pollard, Albertvilles deputy police chief, said, When our dogs put on those vests, it helps protect them, the officers and the community.
