A Vet May Turn a Dog Away Based on Breed

It shouldn’t be legal, but it probably is. Vet offices are private practices and they can exclude anyone they want. Often, insurance companies don’t allow pit type breeds in businesses and some places won’t even allow you to own a bully breed if you rent or are belong to a homeowner’s association, regardless of whether or not the “breed” is technically legal. It’s quite ridiculous. BUT…..if you want my honest opinion, I think you should look at this as a positive. Because any vet who makes decisions like this based on a breed doesn’t know anything about dogs. And I’m sure you’d much rather know this now than before your dog might have been treated by people like this. You may have to drive a bit further, but the care is probably going to be of a higher standard at a vet’s office where they actually know something about dogs.
