1. The Kuvasz’s white coat was selectively bred for functionality.

2. Kuvaszok guarded royal Hungarian families.

Since betrayal and assassinations were common during this time, it was said that King Matthias trusted his Kuvaszok more than his own royal guard. He would also occasionally gift noblemen with one of his Kuvaszok, and it was considered to be a special honor to receive a Kuvasz from the King’s Royal Kennels.

3. Kuvaszok were revived from near extinction.

By the end of World War II, only about 30 Kuvaszok were found to be alive. They had been counted by a factory owner who was looking for a Kuvasz to guard his property. The realization of the scarce number of Kuvaszok spurred breeding programs to help revitalize and revive the breed’s population numbers.
