On the last day of our week of examining different memorial options for dogs, we’re going to keep it simple. We’re wrapping up the week with a contest for an exquisite memorial pendant or glass sculpture from the generous folks at Art from Ashes, in Amherst, Mass. These handcrafted items will be custom-made to incorporate a small amount of ash from the dog of the winner of the contest. Here’s how they describe what they do:

The ashes of your loved one are integrated into a unique, handcrafted glass memorial, creating a lasting, meaningful remembrance. The glassblowers use less than a teaspoon of cremains, just enough of the ashes to maintain the integrity of each piece. Your loved ones name can be simply etched on the bottom of the glass sculptures as a private tribute. Each unique remembrance is discreet and beautiful, a truly original piece of art. Because less than a teaspoon of cremated ash is used to create each remembrance, the remaining cremains can be scattered, held in a traditional urn, buried, or used to make additional remembrances.

Today’s contest winner will have the choice of an Enduring Gem Pendant (in any of their four standard colors) or a Heart Sculpture in either the Geometric Bubble design, or Veiled Silver Design with the color choice of cobalt or midnight. (The only heart not available for the contest is Midnght Gold, which has real gold leaf in it.) Talk about a gem of a prize!

The contest? Take a look at the seven choices on the two pages linked in the above paragraph. Tell us what you think, and which one you’d like if you were to win. As with some previous contests, your comment counts as your “raffle ticket,” and we’ll have a random drawing for a winner. (Some of these contests are just too hard to judge otherwise!) Only one entry per person, please. Deadline for the contest is Monday, June 14, 2010, at 5 pm Pacific Time. The winner will be announced Tuesday, June 15. Here’s to you and your shining star! (And don’t forget the contest for the hand-crafted urn by Custom Pet Urns! There’s still time to enter! Click here for details!)

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this week’s series by leaving your thoughts, opinions, and experiences. I think we’re all a little wiser for this. Dogsters are a tender, caring, insightful, devoted breed.
