If you’ve ever doubted a dog could be in love I think the story in the Citizens Times about two strays will change your mind.
Kim Klein of Bakersfield, N.C. regularly sets out food for the stray cats that wander onto her property. One day a homeless hound dog mix started showing up to partake of the kitty buffet.
This routine continued for several months, but much to Kim’s dismay the dog’s condition continued to deteriorate. One day Kim realized the dog, who she named Tia, had recently given birth and her situation was dire.
Klein said she knew the dog was in “a state of desperation, and I was lucky enough to befriend her. Scared and alone, she asked for help.”
Klein bathed and fed her. The dog sighed, exhausted, and finally slept deeply.
Then, Klein said, “I asked her to please lead me to her babies. We both ran and ran two miles into the deep forest, through bushes and brambles. And there the rainbow ended, the pot of gold: five hungry puppies in a stump, crying for their mama.”
Eventually Klein found homes for all the puppies. Tia however, was still having issues adjusting. Everyday she would run barking back into the woods, one day Klein followed her and that was when she found the reason behind Tia’s continued distress. In the woods was Steve, the father of the puppies, and Tia’s soulmate.
Klein has been fostering both dogs but isn’t able to keep them because of her cat sanctuary. Last weekend she took them to a dog adoption event hoping that she would be able to find them a wonderful forever home. Unfortunately, everyone looked at the puppies and no one looked at Tia and Steve.
With a heavy heart, Klein drove the dogs back to Bakersville.
“I am desperate to find someone to adopt and care for these two loving dogs together, as they are so committed to each other and so deserving of a loving home,” she said. “I do not want to separate them, but I realize I will probably end up doing so if something good doesn’t happen soon.”
Kim Klein has done what most people won’t, gone out of her way despite any inconvenience to help save two strays. Let’s see if we can help her out by finding Tia and Steve a loving new forever home. If you can help please contact Kim at (828)688-3826.
