Last Tuesday I posted the story about a woman in Pottsboro, TX who was living in her station wagon with 22 dogs.
The SPCA was notified and the dogs were removed from the owner’s care, they were housed at the Perry Animal Care Center waiting for a judge to decide on custody.
On Monday, February 16 the judge awarded custody to the SPCA. The dogs believed to be Papillions and long-haired Chihuahuas are all healthy enough for adoption. The woman has been ordered to to pay $3,520 in restitution for the care and custody of the dogs since the seizure. Considering the woman was living in her car, with 22 dogs, I have the feeling the money will not be forthcoming any time soon.
The news stories have generated a lot of interest from people who want to adopt the dogs. They will be available starting noon Friday at two SPCA facilities: Dealey Animal Care Center, 362 South Industrial Boulevard in Dallas and Perry Animal Care Center, 8411 Stacy Road in McKinney.
