Fail to scoop your dog’s poop in the English borough of Walsall, and you could be fined a whopping 1,000 ($1,573) if the local Council approves proposed new rules. Let your dog off leash, and it would be another 1,000. Ouch. Leashless poopetrators beware!

More than 500 parks and open spaces grace Walsall. According to the Express and Star, they’re all popular with dog walkers as well as families. The Express and Star reports that Council chiefs say the rules wouldn’t have to apply to all parks, just where it’s a “necessary and proportionate response to problems caused by the activities of dogs and those in charge of them.”

There’s nothing like stepping in unscooped poop to squish the fun out of your afternoon, and with these parks filled with kids, you can imagine the potential run-ins between piles of poop and unsuspecting tots. But 1,000 seems like a really hefty fine. That said, it would probably nip the problem in the butt, so to speak.

Dogsters, do you know the fine in your area for either of these offenses? Does anything come close to this?
