Lesson: Do not dress as a mossy tree trunk or tempting bit of grass if there's a chance you will have to outwit a police dog.

OK, here’s the weirdest dog-related story of the month so far. A police dog sniffing around for clues about a burglary suspect in Oregon showed particular interest in what seemed to be a fallen-over mossy tree trunk or mound of unkempt grass near the museum. But the dog’s nose wasn’t just crazy for scents of nature, or sniffing out a good place to do a leg lift.

As you see on the informal mug shot on the left, the dog had unearthed the suspect. He was wearing a costume that looked like the lovechild of Swamp Thing and a hirsute tree from the forest in The Wizard of Oz. Police must have gotten a bit of a start when the dog discovered this Moss Man. The guy doesn’t look too happy about his little predicament. Maybe the dog did mark his turf.

Check out the video below, which details Moss Man’s not-so-clever attempt at breaking into a museum that was featuring a very valuable gold exhibition. These are challenging economic times, but there’s probably a better way to make a living.
