Willie celebrates ASPCA 's 140th Anniversary

Willie celebrating the ASPCA's 140th birthday!

If you're like most of us, you probably have at least one dog in your life who is only alive in your heart and memories. If that's the case then you might want to visit the Pets From the Past Group. Willie, pictured above in his ASPCA finery, and his mom, Joni, have a lovely ceremony commemorating those companions who have passed on or who are very ill. Willie and Joni light candles.

Hi - When we joined Dogster, we were so glad to meet people from all over the world and enjoy silly and funny stories of their pets. It never occurred to us that we would make friends with so many and then have our hearts broken when one of them went to the bridge or was terribly ill.

We have a dear pal, Little Bit, who has been battling cancer for sometime. We actually wrote a tribute to her in our diary entry in January. We started lighting candles of hope every Thursday night along with her other pals and we began adding candles for other sick pups and then those who left us for the bridge. So, between 7-8 each Thursday, many Dogster pals keep this candlelighting tradition going. It somehow makes us feel as if we are giving tribute to those ill or gone to the bridge and helping their families get thru the pain and sadness.

My darling little Willie seems to know this is a special time somehow and will sit quietly while we do this. I think animals know more than we do sometimes and we learn from them!

Thank you Willie and Joni and the rest of the Pets From the Past Group for reminding us to be grateful for the time we have with our four-legged loved ones and to remember those who have gone before but shone so brightly when they graced our lives. I know I'll be thinking about you and my departed pups this Thursday and for Thursdays to come.

Remembering Group Administrators Dutchess, Felicia and Joy who lead from across the Bridge
