Here’s an update on a story we ran yesterday. Gary Guy Mathews, the Pittsburgh-area man who wanted to legally change his name to “Boomer the Dog,” won’t have to get newly monogrammed towels: A judge has denied his petition.
Common Pleas Judge Ronald Folino said that if Mathews became Boomer the Dog, it could result in “confusion in the marketplace,” and problems with thimgs like emergency dispatch during a crisis, according to an AP article.
Mathews, who is a Furry (you can read about it in my other story) could not be reached for comment last night. Not even a bark.
I think his next try should be keeping his middle name and making “Dog” his last name. He could be “Guy Dog.” Instead of getting dressed as Boomer (the canine star of a 1980 TV show, Here’s Boomer), as he does now, Mathews could get costumed as a guide dog. At least he’d be allowed in restaurants.
