UPDATE: The program has been flooded with nominations, and as of today (Dec. 23) is no longer able to accept nominations. We’re keeping the story below because we want readers to be aware of this program.

It’s the holidays, and shelters are hurting. Wouldn’t you love to be responsible for helping your favorite shelter or pet-food bank get a donation of thousands of dollars of pet-supply products? Thanks to the Hartz Shelter Donation Program, you might be able to be something of a Santa to a worthy pet organization.

The Hartz Shelter Donation Program has $3 million worth of in-kind donations to give to animal shelters and pet-food banks across the US. With donations down 30 percent, this could be an immense help to struggling organizations.

Many shelters have taken advantage of this generous program, but Hartz Mountain Corporation still has a whopping $1 million worth of pet-supply products to give away! Among the donations: Dog biscuits and bones, meat treats, chews, puppy pads, collars and leashes, bowls, toys, grooming products and bedding, flea and tick treatments, vitamins and dental care products, bird seed, rabbit and small animal food.

If you know of a shelter or pet-food bank that has a need, and the capacity for 2,000 pet supply products, you can nominate it by emailing hartzshelterheroes@hartz.com. Emails should include both contact information for the Hero Sponsor and the shelters name, address and telephone number. Hartz will contact them both about next steps for the donation.

Ho ho ho, and best of luck!
