Last Thursday, Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of the late Kurt Cobain, lost her beloved French Bulldog, Uncle Fester, tweeting the news to her followers.
“I am beyond devastated,” she wrote.
Explaining that he died during surgery under anesthesia, Cobain writes she is “grateful his suffering has ended and that he is somewhere peaceful without pain.”
There’s no word on why the dog was undergoing surgery, but what Cobain does offer is a heartfelt memorial to her dog. It’s worth reading in its entirety:
My sweet French Bulldog, Uncle Fester, died today. I am beyond devastated. He died during surgery whilst under anesthesia so essentially he died in his sleep, which is all I could’ve asked for. I am grateful his suffering has ended and that he is somewhere peaceful without pain. I will miss his giant head and alien/gremlin personality and his big dumb dopey grin. He will forever be embedded in my heart and I will miss him eternally. I’m grateful for the love he exuded and the happiness that filled my life because of his existence. I just hope he felt as though he lived a fulfilled and happy life surrounded in love. I gave him the best life I was capable of giving and loved him with every ounce of my being.
R.I.P. little alien gremlin big head.
The 20-year-old Cobain was very close to Uncle Fester. The dog made news last year when the young artist got a restraining order preventing Courtney Love from seeing her, her grandmother, and her aunt, according to the Daily Mail.
Also on the list? Uncle Fester.
Frances Bean believed her estranged mother was a danger to her dog, based on her mother’s past behavior with pets. According to the Daily Mail, “Frances Bean said that Love’s behavior at the time had caused some of her pets’ death — the cat became entangled in Love’s ‘Etsy fabrics, boxes of paperwork, trash and other possessions,’ while the dog swallowed several of Love’s stash of prescription pills.”
Cobain, who is engaged to musician Isaiah Silva, still shares her life with two cats.
