Is this ever a contest just designed for many of our Dogsters! Diamond Pet Foods wants to highlight the special working dogs among us! This announcement was just released from the company.

Company seeks stories of working dogs that make a difference in American society

Labor Day is a time for Americans to stop and honor the nation's workforce. This Labor Day, Diamond Pet Foods, a leading manufacturer of super premium pet foods, wants to recognize working dogs, those companion animals that make a difference in the every day lives of Americans. People with great stories of their working dog helping in the home or community can submit an essay for the chance to win a free bag of Diamond Pet Food each month for one year.

What is a working dog? They are the constant companions who provide unconditional love, entertainment, guidance, and even protection. From assistance dogs to police and military canines, from farm dogs to movie stars, these four-legged members of the workforce make an impact on our society.

According to the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners, there are 25,000 service dogs trained to assist people with disabilities working the United States today. These are guide dogs for the visually impaired; hearing dogs for the hearing impaired; and service dogs for the physically impaired.

"At Diamond Pet Foods, we feel it is appropriate to recognize the many contributions working dogs make in our society," said John Kampeter, director of marketing, Diamond Pet Foods. "Working dogs across the county play an important role in keeping us safe, contributing to the success of farms and ranches, and helping people with disabilities achieve independence."

Contestants must submit an essay of 500 words or less that answers the question, "How does your working dog contribute to your home and/or community?" Essays must be e-mailed to labordogs@diamondpet.com as an attached word document or PDF file. Complete contest rules are available at diamondpet.com . No purchase is necessary. Void where prohibited.

All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m., Central Standard Time on Sept. 15, 2006.

Diamond Pet Foods will select five essays and award those contestants a 40-pound bag of the Diamond Naturals each month for a year.
