The search is over. These are the best Christmas cards. Photographer Peter Thorpe and Raggle win Christmas — or at least a baked yam’s worth of Christmas.
And unbeknownst to us, Peter has been winning Christmas since 1990, first with his dog Paddy, who later passed, and then with Raggle. (The only excuse for our ignorance is that Thorpe is from the UK. Also, he never sent us a Christmas card. Sniff.)
As Peter writes on his site, “Two dogs, three children, and now over 20 Christmases later, making these cards has become something of a family tradition and a lovely record to treasure. The fun for me has been choosing to continue to create these traditionally rather than with Photoshop, by making my own sets plus props and using a fair bit of food bribery!”
What Peter has come up with over the years is incredible:
Peter is, of course, a kind and decent dog photographer.
“Raggle is a very sweet and gentle dog, and is very happy to be dressed briefly for the photos,” he told the Metro. “We don’t make her do anything she doesn’t like. And she always gets a treat afterwards.”
This year marks the end the run, though, as Raggle is retiring from the model life, according to the Metro. “Elderly with a weak heart,” Peter says on his site. “Like a true pro, [Raggle] sat in position and gave a few head and eye line options before returning to her basket for another snooze!”
