Wild Dogs Considered Pests

Dingoes

I don’t know much about this situation but it seems odd to consider wild dogs in the same way one discusses weeds. Maybe some of the Australian Dogsters can tell us more about this article from ABC NewsOnline.

Council, green group join forces to tackle weeds, wild dogs

A south-west Queensland environmental group says a partnership it has developed with a local shire council is reaping benefits.

South West NRM says it is working with Quilpie Shire Council on a number of environmental projects, including weeds and wild dogs.

The council has received funding from the group to buy a coldroom for the storage of meat used in baiting campaigns.

Mayor David Edwards says while the council currently conducts coordinated baiting twice a year, landholders also needed the option to have access to bait between the programs to improve control efforts.

He says the coldroom means bait is available as required.

Councillor Edwards says more than five million hectares in Quilpie Shire has so far been baited and the council is well on its way to achieving targets in wild dog management.
