WAYWORN PET RESORT 3066 BLOOMER SPRINGS RD MCGAHEYSVILLE, VA 22840 Phone (540) 289-7020 VICKI SHAMBLEY June 9, 2011 ATTN: SUE RICHARDS REFERENCE ID# 8233591 SOPHIE M SCHENK COMPLAINT Ms Schenk arrived at my boarding facility on July 3, 2010 with her pet boxer , Bruiser, who was 8 months old and deaf (white). Upon check in we wrote all the feeding instructions down and my 2 employees and I followed those instructions. Her father also brought his pet dachshund tootsie on the same day. His pet has been here before with no complaints either time and he has paid his bill. My employee stated to me upon Bruiser’s arrival that he was a little thin, and I explained most boxer’s unless obese are thin and have a greyhound appearance. The first 2 days (being his first time here) did not eat very well. On the third day he ate very well. We had him in an indoor/outdoor run and let him out in fenced yard 3 times a day, and being a boxer pup he was obviously very active which would not be the normal routine of a pet while their owners are at work. I am enclosing her vet check-up letter she sent me which stated he was healthy and energetic the day after he left. Just a note the vet had not seen him since May 14, 2010 when he was neutered. Ms. Schenk also noted she did not look at food level upon pickup or mention she thought he lost weight, until she got home. If it were my pet I would have noticed right away and complained. She also mentioned a “bruise” on lower side of mouth, which in her Vet’s letter is stated to be likely a saliva stain. I am not sure when she took the pictures she enclosed but she is refusing to pay her bill and if he was in “bad” shape when he left, the vet would have Rehydrated him and mentioned he was not healthy, and the way she mentioned it was a Serious Situation, if it was her vet would have done a follow up visit. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, VICKI SHAMBLEY Currently Online Click to Rate: 3.2 star avg. They provide excellent care and attention to our dogs. We don't pamper our dogs, but they are an important part of our family. Wayworn keeps them safe and healthy while we are away. March 13, 2009 by Jane Simmons in Mc Gaheysville, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Good job. My husband and I have lived in Massanutten Resort for the past 6 years and we began using Wayworn because it was soooo close to home, but we came to really appreciate the friendly atmosphere and the feeling of "family" when it comes to the owner and staff. They know our dogs and their querks and I feel confident and at ease leaving my dogs with them, which we do regularly. November 24, 2008 by M. Buie in Mc Gaheysville, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Wayworn Kennel The dogs enjoyed their stay at the kennel. We found the staff was very friendly, genuinely liked the dogs, and gave them lots of time to play outside in their fenced yard. The location was very convenient to Massanutten, just around the corner from where we checked in. We were able to play with the dogs every day, so our vacation very pleasant. October 24, 2008 by Judy Tomelden in Davidsonville, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 5 best care Our dog has always been afraid of strangers. We have boarded him with Vicky Shambley several times. Her care and attention have made it easier for him to befriend other humans. In my book, she worked miracles with him. He is still afraid of dogs larger than he is, but that is a small matter. The fact that this kennel is so close Massanutten makes visiting him every day so much more convenient, and we know if we miss a day, he is still getting loving care. August 24, 2008 by Eileen in Mays Landing, NJ Wayworn Pet Resort 5 A very nice resort We've boarded our dogs at Wayworn several times over the years, and have been very happy with their services. Our dogs have a great time there, and enjoy the country atmosphere. Their rates are very reasonable indeed for this part of the country. We'll be continuing to board our dogs there when we're on vacation in that area, and I'd recommend the kennel to anyone who wants to have their dogs conveniently nearby if they're staying at Massanutten. August 18, 2008 by Laura Hemly in Edgewater, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Best I cannot recommend Wayworn Kennels high enough for their competence and attention to detail Wayworn Kennels is the most dedicated and consciences kennel I have ever entrusted my Irish Setter to for safety. They are located near a premier resort setting outside Harrisonburg. This provides a country setting and more pet exercise space then usual. This is not an institutional setting of detached employees working for a paycheck. The staff is well trained and insisted on good and proper hygiene for my setter. I followed up with a full grooming session that was profession, thorough and very reasonable for the work done. Mgr Vicki Shambley ensures each animal receives personal attention to maintain physical and mental health. As an aside, Wayworn is responsible for reuniting pets with their owners while using their own resources. July 04, 2008 by Peter Ott in Lubbock, TX Wayworn Pet Resort 4 Home Away From Home We have used the facility twice now and have been very pleased. Staff is very friendly and great with our boys. Like the fact that have an area where they can run around and not be caged all day. June 27, 2008 by Christine Holland in Hagerstown, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 5 We LOVE Wayworn We have been taking our Rottweiler to Wayworn for over 4 years. We travel a lot so he is always going there and he gets soo excited when we start pulling in to Wayworn. We have never had any problems and our dog is always taken care of and while we are away I don't have to worry. We would not go anywhere else and we recommend Wayworn Pet Resort to all our friends. Thanks Vicki & staff for taking such great care of our baby!!!! April 08, 2011 by Linds Soda in Harrisonburg, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Kennel I left my lab in the care of Wayworn Pet Resort for two months while I was relocating. They took very good care of him and I will use them in the future and highly recommend them. August 27, 2010 by Donna in Hamilton, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Our boys vacation hotel Our two yorkies have stayed at Wayworn twice now while we where at our timeshare in Massanueten. They seemed to have been happy and well taken care of. When we picked them up they had their baths and looked great. I have peace of mind when we vacation now knowing our boys are in good hands. May 31, 2010 by Christine Holland in Hagerstown, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Caring Individual Service We booked at Massanutten and found out they do not allow any pets. We have two young Sugar Gliders and needed a place that was close to the resort. We were so pleased with Wayworn! They were accommodating and gave us and our Sugar Gliders individual care and attention. They are so wonderful, if I ever need a pet resort again, I will drive the 2+ hours from my home to leave them with Wayworn again. April 08, 2010 by Laura in Lorton, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 home-away-from-home We loved the setting, friendly service, would definatly choose again. March 19, 2010 by Rich Miranda in Jefferson, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Fantastic! This place is always fantastic with our two dogs.. I like the fact they expect dogs to act like dogs, not humans.. We have a slight issue with one of ours being very wiery of strangers.. Sometimes this is good, sometimes not so good. But when we took her there the first time, they made sure to go out of their way to make her feel at home.. We could tell when we picked her up that she was not stressed at all and took very well to the owners.. The best place to board your dogs.. April 07, 2008 by Amy in Mc Gaheysville, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 great place for any one Wayworn is a great place to take any of your pets. i worked there a few years back and they do take great care and know every dog by name when you walk in the door. they even helped me find my first dog, who was born there two years ago. you could not ask for better people to make you and your dog feel loved from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave you are not another person you are a parent, of your beloved pet. they even will take care of birds, ferrets, rabits, hamsters and more. and trust me all pets are loved the same and every pet gets more then one hour of human contact a day with no extra charge. unlike some dog spa's. March 19, 2008 by Kelly in Elkton, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 Great service Wayworn is a great place to board your dog. The rates are good. The people that work there take great care of the pets. I've taken my dogs there for years and have always been pleased. Anytime that I have not been able to get hold of someone, I leave a message and they promptly return my call. Grooming services are also very affordable and very good. November 05, 2007 by Amy in Elkton, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 4 No complaints This place was fine. We don't use kennels often, but our 4 y/o Airedale didn't lose weight over the week he was there, and didn't seem to come out with any bad habits. August 13, 2007 by Rich in Annapolis, MD Wayworn Pet Resort 4 cheap prices , good service, available humans. It's not a luxury spa for dogs, so if you're dog is a diva, and you are a probably won't like this place. What they DO offer is convenience, affordability, access to your dog while on vacation. I have not had any one groom my dog here but i am a local who uses their sitting services regularly and i have never walked in and felt like they were not doing a good job or seen anything that would make me think about taking my dog elswhere. Animals are taken care of and given a chance to go outside and they listen to you about your pets needs. The first poster maybe just didn't have very good timing on getting someone on the phone...probably because they were taking pets outside or grooming them or getting somebodies pet situated. July 16, 2007 by Kris in Mc Gaheysville, VA Wayworn Pet Resort 5 My dog's home away from home I wouldn't trust anyone to take better care of my sweet pooch than Vickie and the crew at Wayworn. They treat him like he's one of their own. The care and love they provide is second to none!!! March 13, 2007 by Sandy in Harrisonburg, VA Write a Review for this merchant. Click to Rate:

Pet Lover's BEWARE!

DO NOT leave your pets at this facility. I left my pet there for 6 1/2 days (July 3, 2010 - July 10, 2010); he was pratically starved to death. They did not follow the specific directions given for feeding my deaf puppy (2 cups of dry food mixed with 1/2 can of wet food twice a day) and then treid to say I didn't supply enough food. I left enough food for 8 days; they NEVER fed him his dry food, only the wet food, 1 can a day (which was about 3/4 cup of food). He also was covered in dried urine the day I picked him up to take him home and they lost his bedding cover. I asked them if he was eating and they said he was and then I asked if they were mixing his dry food with the wet and she hesitated before she said yes. This hesitation was a dead give away they were not giving him his dry food. Also, the container I left with the dry food was still full with the same amount of food I left on the day I dropped him off. The owner showed no concern, nor did she care, after I contacted her regarding the letter I sent stating my concerns. All she said was I was trying to get out of paying. This is FAR from the truth. I am seeking legal action and have reported them to the VA BBB, VA Animal Control Association, and Massanutten Resorts (since they refer people there). I will never leave my pet here again! Worst experience of my life!

It's good for the price...

It's only $10.00 a day and your dog is crated next to other dogs. It is air conditioned and they let the dogs out one by one to use the bathroom and stretch their legs. You can't beat it for the price.
