“Prickly-pear cactus, wild lupine and sand cherry bloom atop dry, hot sand dunes just yards away from orchids growing in low, wet swales. Such contrasts are what make the Oak Openings Region the subject of endless fascination for naturalists. (two miles west of Toledo Express Airport), Swanton (Entrances off Wilkins Road, SR 64 and SR 2) The richly diverse area west of Toledo is built on a clay foundation and covered by wind-swept sand. It is home to Lark sparrows and Karner blue butterflies – at least 180 rare species in all, more than any other region its size in Ohio. Badgers make their home in the sand, too. ”

This is a great park!!

I love this park. It's great for scenary and for smells. I just wish I didn't have to be on my leash all of the time. Sometimes I like to wander a little bit, but I understand that rules are rules so I will listen in exchange for a nice walk through the miles and miles of beautiful terrain and nature. It's hard to believe that this is Toledo when I am inside of the park. It's like being somewhere else.

PARK!

THIS IS MY MOST FAVORITE PARK TO HAVE MY ADVENTURES! MOM AND DAD TAKE ME ON THE TRAILS AND HIKE FOR HOURS! THEN IN THE EVENING, WHEN IT'S COOLER, WE GO BACK AND WATCH THE DEER! OAK OPENINGS IS THE BEST PARK IN NORTHWEST OHIO!
