“Fred G. Bond Metro Park, at 310 acres, is one of the largest municipal parks in Wake County. Like an oasis in the midst of the city, the park design preserves the environment and offers opportunities for many types of recreation. All facilities are integrated into the natural setting. Visitors may enjoy picnics, play ball on the athletic fields, see a performance in the amphitheater, walk along the trails, or play on the Lazy Daze Playground. The Bond Park Community Center and the Cary Senior Center are within the park boundaries. The new boat house is now open. ”
bond parki reccomend the boat house. its by the bathrooms, water fountains and other fun stuff. As bonuses they have a screened in porch for people and a drinking fountain for dogs. |
Bond ParkI love Bond Park. It's a perfect place to jog for a mile and a half and walk your pet. They have a new, bigger boat house. We love visiting Bond Park on beautiful Saturday mornings after or right before mass. I strongly recommend this park for times when there's nothing better to do. posted: March 17th, 2007 |
Wear pants and watch vigilantly! We live within walking distance of Bond Park, so this is where we go most of the time. There is a big lake encircled by a 2-mile rough trail which Gretta and I love! Make sure to tell your human to wear long pants, however--during certain seasons there are copperheads here, so be aware of your surroundings! Also, a tick check after your hike is definitely in order--this is a hike through a forested area. The lakefront is really fun, and they will let dogs get into the rental paddle boats and canoes! Talk about fun overload! There is also a large grassy field with a hill; sometimes we see off-leash dogs here, but they're not supposed to be off-leash. There are trash cans for poop bag disposal along the greenway portion of the trail, but in the wooded area there aren't. I recommend either doing your business before you enter the woods or waiting 'till your done. The greenways here lead to the meeting of W. Chatham and Old Apex roads on one end, and to the Cary Parkway and YMCA on the other. For your humans, the community center (where you get registered for the Cary dog park) is located here as well, so be sure to give woeful eyes if you're not a member. Also, things tend to get really mucky here after a rain, so be prepared for a hose-down when you get home. All in all, this is a fun park and a fairly easy hike, the perfect spot for a short-legged dachshund like me! posted: February 28th, 2007 |
