Euthanized Dog Enjoying Life Again
Mia, the Michigan Rottweiler who woke up hours after a vet had "euthanized" her (and scared the pants off her owner when he found her standing on all fours) is enjoying life as she hasn't for a long time, and will soon be moving to the country to live out the rest of her days on a farm.
After her story went public last month, donations poured in from around the globe to help keep Mia on this side of the grass a while longer. She has been able to get the medical treatment she needs in order to stay out of terrible pain from conditions that include a ruptured disc, hip and spinal arthritis, and partial paralysis of a leg, according to UPI. She has been given a new lease on life, and is living it well, and with a sparkle in her eye. The 11-year-old dog even gets to wolf down roast chicken and rice, which one of the dog lovers who contacted Mia owner suggested feeding her, reports the Detroit News.
Mia is still battling numerous problems, but she is "100-percent better from where she was," Mia's owner, Matt Olivarez, told Fox Detroit, "She's walking by herself. She's eating by herself. She's like all the way back to normal almost considering where she was at."
Olivarez says that having Mia euthanized once was hard enough. He just didn't have the heart to do it again. He is struggling financially, facing foreclosure, and needing to move to a small Detroit apartment. Expensive treatments were not possible. But the donations made them possible. And with some help from a veterinarian (not the one who botched the euthanasia), it's clear that Mia has got some good wag left in her stumpy tail.
She'll soon be moving to a farm about 90 minutes away from Detroit, with friends of Olivarez's family who wish to remain anonymous. Mia obviously did not have to die to find heaven.
