The dog comes with a great deal of pre-installed programming. Though its operating system is more or less the same one used by its wild cousin, the wolf, the software has been altered in important ways to make the dog more amenable to life with humans. Other Resources on This Topic

I think it is important to point out that unless this veterinarian is also a trainer and behaviorist he is not qualified to write this section that deals with some more-than-basic training issues. My aunt who was a vet for many years, started her own practice, and now works at a university as a professor of veterinary science and head of animal care is the FIRST to tell an owner to hire a trainer or behaviorist. She can help problem solve very simple issues but with things like dominance she is not trained to give advice on that (but she could tell if a physical ailment was causing the behavior). I do not know of a single vet (who isn't also a behaviorist) who would feel comfortable publishing articles about solving things like dominance issues (especially articles that i feel are dangerous and will have someone get hurt). I just felt it was something that needed to be said...that as a vet he can tell you ALL about medicine, health (but not necessarily nutrition), first aid, injuries etc... but vets are not trainers they are not behaviorists. Anyone reading this chapter should take what he says with a grain of salt.
