	I'm not really surprised...it's really the same deal with finding puppies in stores for sale. A good breeder who actually cares about their animals welfare will not hand them over an outside party who then hands them over to whomever has the money to buy them-no questions asked. Birds, fish, rodents, ferrets, reptiles, etc-its all pretty much the same story... Leaving out my personal opinions and rants about PETA, the surprise to me is that they are only linking this behavior to Petsmart as opposed to most every other petshop that sells live animals...

	Doesn't surprise me whatosever. I worked at a Petco and quit because of the conditions we got animals in and how people would sell them to just anyone without asking questions. Over half of the hamsters on each shipment died before they were sold, and many died after and were returned/exchanged.

	Yes I had heard of that. All the Petsmarts near me are not selling any animals right now. And don't forget about all the parvo cases that come through Petsmarts.

	Wow is all I can really say. I like to ask questions here because you are bound to get the truth. I hate to hear this about any place that we feel is safe and secure for our animals. I personally do not believe in breeding for the simple fact we have enough homeless animals that need good homes. I could have not had Mr Snoodles fixed and breed him with another of his kind which is a pure breed Shih Tuz but that was not in my heart. No matter that I only get a small amount on disability each month did not matter to me. I think that not breeding was more important then me making money off of him. And then who really is sure what kind of home they are going to. Anyone can tell you anything and some you can believe and then they turn out to be the devils advocate. So I did not want to take chances and besides there are homeless animals that need great homes. Thank you all for getting back to me on this matter. I will not shop at petsmart any more. Not that I went there a lot anyways they are just to high for my account. And parvo is awful and its real bad in the area I live in. I am in Alabama now and really did not know much about it untill I got here and have learned a lot. I started picking up homeless dogs once I got here and have kept some and others have found homes for. ( This was scarey looking for homes for some of them, I did find someone on here to help me get babygal a home and from what I am told she went to a great home) And all that I have found and got homes for I did get there frist shots for them before they went to there new home. But I have no idea if this persons or person was really who they say there were. I did ask for ref and did check so they always had great ref but who really knows. The folks that used to live next to me had a cutie pie puppy and I asked the guy if they had gotten the frist shots for the puppy he said we are going to go get them for him and that was not even 6 days later I found the puppy laying in front of my car almost dead and I ran it to the vet and by that time it was to late they had to put it down. I WAS NOT HAPPY. Wish that he could have been charged for his uncaring attitude and not getting his dog to the vet especially when I sat there and explained to him how serious it was to have this shot for parvo. Grrrrrrr Shayshay stressed out Mom.

	I'm not even going to read anything on the PETA website! They are complete idiots and GRRRRRRRRRR!... we love to go to our local petsmart. They do not sell dogs and cats... they only help our local Humane Society tons!!! They raise TONS of money for them and hold adoption drives on Saturdays and adopt out cats daily... I have nothing whatsoever against them... yes they sell birds and rodents... I wish they didn't... but the good that they do for shelters is way bigger than any harm they ever do.: &$*@@!# PETA My pets are vaccinated! Edited by author Thu Feb 7, '08 6:05pm PST

	I didn't know Petsmart used glue traps I'm never shopping there again. I knew about the horrid conditions but was assured by the store manager that they got their animals from a much more reputable person and they were healthy. This Petsmart hasn't had any health complaints from people who bought animals from them. The Glue Traps really upset me though. I like rodents and that is a slow, painful death.

	Great. another petsmart rant. its not like they knew the conditions of these animals, the stores themselves just get in shipments. the stores dont usually know animals are ill untill they get them in, and if it is realized, they are immediately taken out and treated for whatever. And they havent been able to sell birds for months, i guess this being the reason. dog & cats are not "sold", they come from rescue organizations to be adopted. the birds ARE regularly socialized with the specialists as well. There PETA goes again....

	Speaking of Glue Traps, My husband decided one year to trap the rats that were coming in from the construction sites behind our house....he bought glue traps....One night we caught a rat, beautiful brown feild rat. i freaked.....My son a US MArine now, and i took tongs and a rag, and caught the mouse that at this time was dragging the trap around the garage, and detached the trap cleaning off his feet with soapy water....we must have lookind like fools, both of us afraid of this rat and worried that we were not going to be able to get it all cleaned off. To make a long story short, we succeeded and let it loose to eat out of our dog food buckets for the next three months. My husband finally gave up on trapping the rats and mice and they went away the following year. It's funny, when you set a trap, you never think about the death of the animal until you see it....In case anyone wonders, we killed and trapped no critters that year and had the neighbors razzing us til this day....

	Am I being misunderstood?...I did not say that Petsmart sold dogs and cats, just that the conditions that the small animals come from are usually no better than the conditions that dogs and cats that come from from the pet stores that do sell them.
