We recently decided to add to our family and ended up bringing home this lovely husky/husky mix from the shelter. Alice is around 11-months-old. She's still on the skinny side, so she looks awkward. But, we love her anyone, ha!

Alice has a lot of husky traits, including a lovely "woo" and a healthy need to pull dog walk Our vet and trainer think she is probably all husky -- I'm just wondering if anyone else has thoughts on her. Is she just a piebald or splash back Siberian, or do you think she's maybe a husky shepherd cross?

BOL, you posted under Charlie. He looks nothing like a Sib but Alice looks very Husky. big laugh

I don't know about the markings, not up on coat colors, but she sure has the look and build to be pure Siberian. dog walk

Ha! I forgot that I needed to change the dog. Yes, Charlie is very much a coonhound and probably wouldn't appreciate being called "husky" laugh out loud

I agree, she looks all sibe to me and she is very gorgeous! She just doesn't have your "classic" husky markings, but she definitely looks purebred.

Agreed - she looks all Husky. Very pretty! I hope to have a piebald someday - I absolutely love the unique look.

Thank you Denali and Vance!

When we adopted her, I didn't know that huskies could have markings like Alice's. I've only ever seen huskies with the traditional face mask and full saddle. She's very different looking from the ones we run into at the dog park and training class. Of course, she's still only gained a couple of pounds from when we brought her home, so I imagine she'll look much more husky when she fills out with age.

Some Huskies don't really fill out until after the age of 2. Sakari is 15 months and is just starting to fill out, though she is still very lean.
Everyone we meet thinks she is/was abused and needs to gain a lot of weight, including a vet we briefly had who was unfamiliar with the breed.

Don't get discouraged if she doesn't gain a lot of weight, it is normal for a healthy sibe to appear thin until they mature.

Thank you for the info Sakari! Our coounhound is kind of barrel shaped, so she looks so terribly thin next to him. I guess I'm also just used to the fluffy, sort of roly-poly shape of some of the bigger huskies we see.

We're upping her food to 3 cups a day right now per our vet's advice to see if we can get her to 40 pounds and put a little padding on her hips (her hip bones stick out quite a bit). After that, we'll just have to see how much she expands. As long as she is active with us (which she should be -- when she gets a bit older she can be my running partner and perhaps do some bikejoring), she'll probably be fine weight-wise.
