Meat ... it's- what's for- dinner!

I recently joined a Yahoo resource list for raw feeders in my area, and yesterday got an email about a butcher shop about thirty minutes away that has an abundance of venison RMBs for insanely cheap - ten cents a pound. The guy who posted about it says that some of the bones are pretty clean, but many/most are quite meaty. It's such a great price that I feel like I really NEED to go out there and check it out, but I have so little freezer space (I still haven't bought a chest freezer because I really have nowhere to put it) and my own freezer basically has room for a couple of packages of veggie burgers and some frozen broccoli for me and that's it. The rest is now loaded up with meat for the dogs and cats. If I rearranged stuff I could probably make some more room, though.

So here's my question. Knowing the size dogs I have (15 pounds and not quite 10 pounds), can someone who has fed venison RMBs before tell me whether they think this would be worth the trip for me?

I hate to pass up such a good deal, but on the other hand, I also don't want to waste an hour plus of my weekend driving out there for nothing.

Thoughts?

Oh man I would so buy that venison!!! A lot of venison bones are edible too though I wouldn't pick the totally meatless bones but for 10 cents I wouldn't care if it wasn't a lot of meat on, and for the meaty ones, SUPER!!!! If you can find this, some butchers allow you to rent freezer room. Or maybe neighbors might have room if you asked?

ETA, I jumped at answering, a little excited for you, BOL. Well, my 25 lb dog can handle most venison bones. I'm not sure about 10 and 15 lbs. Can they eat lamb legs and neck? (trying to think of something to compare it with) But the meaty ones still, would be so worth it for that price for venison!!

Trust me on this, I've fed about 1000 pounds of venison.. The only thing your dogs would be able to get through is ribs. My 12lb "god-dog" can get through them.. Leg bones aren't edible, and the neck and back are hard.. Even for my 70 pounder!

Skip and Sally can crack them open, but they just shard. So I don't feed it to them.. The neighbors dog though, a GSD chow mixed mutt can get through a cow leg bone.. But it really isn't safe.

Hm I didn't think they were nearly as hard as cow bones. Good to know, I won't feed deer legs again. I did notice the thinner part would shard, so I took it away when it did. But the rest was ok to them, but if they're that hard I guess they aren't safe.

Thanks, everyone!

So, Tessa, if I can get some meaty ribs, go for it, huh? Think I'll call them tomorrow and see if they'll set some aside for me.

Basically, this is the bone-in stuff they've eaten so far:

Chicken - necks, wings, drumsticks, quarters, bone-in breasts, thighs.

Turkey - drumsticks, wings, and necks.

Lamb - lamb shoulder chops - but wait that doesn't count - those bones were sharp so I took them out.

Pork - necks and ribs. Necks seem to be more a recreational chew for them as the ones I've been able to find haven't been super meaty, and they can't consume much of the bone.

Beef - just ribs I think - they had beef ribs tonight. All their other beef has been boneless meals.

They've had venison before, but only the Nature's Variety venison medallions. So this should be exciting. And who knows what other deals I'll find when I get there. Guess I need to clean out and organize the freezer tomorrow and make some space!

Thanks again, everybody!
