BOL, Holly.
i'm a nanny for a three year old and i consistantly catch myself giving the little boy cues.
"leo, wait!"
"leo, come!"

but oddly enough he actually responds better to the one word, rather than a long sentance.

this is a cute thread!

riley is allowed to jump up and greet me when i come home.
he's allowed to cuddle in bed with me when my husband isn't in bed.
i very laxed on his leash walking. as long as he's not pulling me down the steet, i don't care if his leash gets tight.

but there are things riley absolutly cannot do. no begging for food. no barking out the window. (unless someone comes to the door)

i'd love to take riley on vacation with us this year. we're looking at Assateague Island in virginia. i know they have a lot of wildlife refuges where dogs are not permitted. just wondering if any of you dogsters have brought your dog along there.
any other places you've taken your dog that you've enjoyed?

aw! thanks you guys!
bosley- riley has always had an akward walk, it's almost like his back end rocks a little, and his back legs seem stiff. it's very hard to explain. if he trots or "prances" he looks fine. he seems to have no problem running, it's only when i'm walking him and my slow pace that i notice his "akwardness"

we already give him joint meds since he was a puppy, we also give him lomething called ligaplex (sp?) that a holistic vet recommended for his neck. (i don't remember what i said about it before- but he's always had neck issues, we think it's a slipped disk but again, xrays showed nothing. (we sent those away for a third party to look at as well)

somethimes i think i'm just one of those super paranoid mothers, but i just can't help it :-(

i nanny for my vet's little boy, so my dog riley comes with me a lot. i've been noticing a weird gait in his walk lately. (more so than usual- he's an akward walker) i walked him around for her for about a half hour yesterday, and she agreed that something looks off. so we're going to do yet ANOTHER set of xrays on him. (this will make 4- he had a bad next issue when he was a puppy. at one point during the neck xrays we did his hips and his hips were perfect.)

i hope i'm just being a parnoid mother, he's only just over two. :-(

riley is allergic to chicken- so i feel your pain. we're actually going to add the regional red into his rotation. (i agree that it's expensive!)

some foods to try without chicken:
blue buffalo- lamb, or their basics formulas
TOTW- pacific strem
INNOVa- red meat. (i have to have the owner of the store order it for me- i've never seen it stocked on shelves)
EVO- red meat (i think it chicken free)
Wellness Core- i believe they have a fish based formula.

i have a friend who has a dog with allergies too, we thought it was chicken at first, but jsut found out it was fish. (go figure)

gatsby- what food are you feeding??

riley is 96lbs, and he eats between 3 1/2- 4 cups of food. we split his serving in 1/2. he get's 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 in the evening. we rotate between BB, TOTW and Innova. (going to try origens RR next! super excited!!)

as far as what time is best to feed, i usually like to feed dogs twice a day, to help avoid scarfing their food down at night. but some dogs do fine with getting fed only once.

no offense to those who feed SD, but ingrediant wise it's pretty low grade. i'd recommend going to the nutrition forum and reading what BabBam has to say about large breed nutrition. i'll bump his post for you.
