Raw Food Diet > raw feeding for kittens...?

I know this is Dogster, but the Catster raw forum is less active.

So, in about a month, I'll probably be getting a kitten, and just want to inform myself first.
I don't want to explain my concerns all over again, so here's the URL to the thread:
http://www.catster.com/forums/Raw_Food_Diet/thread/774463

I'm probably going to go with partial raw. And what I didn't mention in the thread is that I went to the petstore today to compare prices on things I'll be needing, and they had this awesome deal for half off on a small bag of Wellness for kittens...got three of them. I guess if I change my mind on what to feed, I could always return them.

So yeah, I see the kittens weekly (at the least), am friends with the family that's raising the litter, know which one I want...I'm even taking pictures of them.
The only real uncertainty factor is my mom. laugh out loud But since she agreed to me going to the store and looking at stuff, and even thought we should snatch up that deal on cat food, I guess the chances aren't too bad.

Not sure I know anyone who owns reptiles here. Wait...the people who run the nature center at the state park have to feed the snakes they keep there. I'll see if I can ask them.

I'll be sure to feed it a nice variety, in any case, then.

Just mice. And those are available pretty easily. But I think it'd need more variety than that.

Welp, Treader's meals for the rest of the week are bagged and in the fridge. He'll be having chicken, beef, sometimes both in one meal, a single sardine along with the rest of the meal some days, and of course the organs spread out over a few days.

What was left, some chicken and beef liver, I put back in the freezer. (There may be another can or two of sardines, too.) Sometime this week I'm going to have to go buy some more meat so he'll have some variety next week as well. Maybe ox tails and some beef.

I used to watch. Now I just make sure to be nearby, and if I need to get up to use the bathroom or something I make sure to keep an ear out.

"I'm possibly getting a kitten in a couple of months, and I'd like to feed it raw,"
...that sounds horrible. I'm cringing just rereading it.eek I really wish I could go and edit that last post just now.confused

Yes, I am probably getting a kitten, but as a pet that I want to feed raw to. May end up going with partial raw, depending on whether I can find an affordable way to source organs on a regular enough basis or not. Or I may go partial raw until it's an adult if I find feeding something that's physically developing and growing too challenging or nerveracking.

Yeah, I'm going to start bagging Treader's daily meals again. Starting tomorrow morning.
Right now I have the organs, some pork, and some ground beef thawing in the sink. There's some chicken already in the fridge.

And sheesh, that fridge is crowded...cleaned it out recently, and it's still crowded. *le sigh*

I'm possibly getting a kitten in a couple of months, and I'd like to feed it raw, so I really need to get back on the ball here. It's just a little challenging for me to balance everything going on in my life, I guess. I have lots I need to work on already, and then stuff I'd like to do but shouldn't unless I have the important stuff out of the way.

Treader hasn't shown any liking to any types of fish but sardines. Everything else he kinda thumbs his nose at. Fed him freezer burnt salmon once, and he ate it all after a crapton of coaxing. Tolapia he won't touch at all.
Definitely should be feeding more beef than I have been.

So the vet mentioned that Treader has some dry skin. I notice he does scratch himself a lot, and he doesn't appear to have fleas.

Any dietary reason for this, possibly? Like I said, I haven't been big on weighing his food like I used to. Also been lacking a little bit in variety these past few weeks. Mostly because I keep forgetting to thaw things out, and then I have to give him something else instead.

Holy crap, this thundershirt is amazing. Treader's been so well-behaved when it's on. laugh out loud We went to Sonic's last night and took him with us. The lady that brought us our food said she didn't even notice Treader was even there at first. Normally he would be wiggling all over the place and whining over the smell of food. And when I let him out this morning, he didn't make a peep. Normally he rushes out there barking his head off and running around the yard frantically.
If nothing else, I'm thinking this might be useful in finally teaching him to calm down around other dogs. We'll see. smile

The shirt was taken off of him yesterday, and not long after I got back from church he hid in the bathroom again. (And sure enough, there the fly was, on the ceiling.) I put the shirt on him.
Didn't really get to test it, though, because it was right after that that we left to go to Sonic's.

The forum actually had nothing to do with dogs. I'm the only person who really talks about dogs on there. laugh out loud
