Well, we had Shortdog put to sleep this afternoon. The vet was nice enough to let him pass away in my arms/lap. He died at 3: 57pm, July 1, 2013. This is very hard for me. I've had him since I was 4 or 5, and he was just 3 weeks away from his 16th birthday. I really wanted him to make it to his birthday, but he was in just too much pain.
Before he passed, I told him I love him and thanks for being my dog. Afterwards, I told my boyfriend, who was sweet enough to be in there with me, that he's in no more pain.
I miss him terribly, but I'm glad he's not suffering. Although he was annoying at times, he was a great dog-sweet, loyal, protective, and a great cuddler.
But yeah, he gets to see some family and neighbor dogs who have passed: General, Colby, Abby, Bocephus, Wendy, Pangy, etc.
Love you, Shortdog, forever and ever!

I haven't really thought too much about what I'm going to do when Shortdog passes. To assure you, he's not, that I know of, on his way out or anything...in fact, he's extremely healthy and lively for an almost 15 year old Dachshund. But, when he goes, I want him cremated, and I'm thinking like, have some ashes in a lovely urn, and some in either a pendant on a necklace or maybe a ring or something. Question is, where would I go to get a pendant or ring like that? Would they have them there at the vet/crematory/pet cemetery place? Also, I want to make sure I have something ready to make a beautiful display. I want something beautiful and special for a memorial for him.
But yeah, my main question is about where to go to get a pandant or whatever. Suggestions about memorials are also welcome.

thanks big grin

Hm...the way I see it, having neighbors that don't take care of their dogs quite right is a great opportunity to...help a dog...if you're one of these people that yell at he tv when an animal cruelty show or commercial is on...this is a great chance to do something! haha
