I'm sorry you had a tough time. I went to the gym with Sabrina several times and never had any issue. I just put her in a down stay next to whatever equipment I was on.

Service & Therapy Dogs > Service and Agility?

Agility was Sabrina's downtime activity that she really loved to do when she was working for me. Having the fun and release of agility helped her focus better during the week. When we didn't have agility class on a weekend, she'd be all sad about it. I think it was a great way to let her have fun, do something different, and it is also a great way to work on surfaces, working with distractions, and so on.

Pupparel.com also makes a don't feed patch. I've not had that problem with Ollie, but once someone tried to feed Sabrina a donut while on duty!

Only been to Vegas with Sabrina, not Ollie. Have been 2-3 times and always no issues whatsoever on the strip. My favorite hotel to stay in would be the Luxor, it has cool stuff and is older so a little cheaper. I like to visit the Venetian, the Bellagio, the W, the Forum Shops etc.

Off the strip, we did have strong no-dog sentiment from several grocery stores and restaurants, but a little polite education solved it every time. But it was definitely a different eperience than in the casinos and on the strip.

Sabrina is half-pittie and now retired (has been for the past 2.5 yrs or so), and we only visited Ohio (a lot) because my parents live there, but we live in California. Can I help at all?

Service & Therapy Dogs > When Fake SD's Attack

Definitely educate the business! Sabrina was attacked several times by dogs in stores (not all of them were fake SDs, but at least one was) and by other SDs. It is very scary. Once a purse dog jumped out of it's purse to go after Sabrina as we were walking by (we didn't know the lady even had a purse dog!). I hope that if businesses get educated they will be more proactive in kicking out dogs that are disruptive or destructive.

ARe you talking about the story about the pittie trained to sniff out peanuts? Good job for the dog! I think their comment at the end about the first pittie trained for service type work was pretty funny. Obviously they've not been to this forum!

I keep telling hubby I think he would do well with a SD for his Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, but he is not up for the SD lifestyle he says. We would have to have the dog trained by someone else for the scent work, like they did, because hubby wouldn't be able to be around the things he is sensitive to.

Having had a pit/weimaraner mix, I would maybe have a pittie SD again but I would never have a Weim SD again. They are really a neurotic breed, very birdy and distractible. It seems you got all the good characteristics in Rock Star of a Weim, but cross-bred dogs usually get at least some good and some bad from each breed in them. Sabrina had hardly any of the bad Weim stuff, but it was enough that I don't want to deal with a Weim again for SD work.
